Of course it's the quality or abrasion resistance. But we also think waterproofness and breathability are very important.
What does a water column say about your snowboard clothing?
An important feature of a good snowboard outfit is that it should be waterproof. In the descriptions and additional information of a garment, the water column is shown in mm. But what does that tell you? In short; The higher the number, the more waterproof the snowboard pant or jacket is. Between 0 - 1,000 mm the fabric is water-repellent and at, say, 15,000 - 30,000 the fabric is completely waterproof.
What does breathability say about your snowboard clothing?
Besides the fact that your snowboard outfit should be waterproof, it is also very important that it should breathe well. When you're snowboarding intensively, you sweat. The sweat has to be wicked away to keep you dry on the inside. You can explain it simply. There are small holes in the fabric that are big enough to let vapor through, but small enough to let moisture out. We denote breathability in, say, 5,000 g. This means that 5,000 g of moisture vapor can pass through per m2 in 24 hours. So the higher the number, the better your snowboard pants or jacket breathes.
